Yes, busting a move on the dancefloor with your friends is fun. But do you know what’s *just* as enjoyable? A cosy night in with your crew sipping on some wine and laughing (or crying!) along to some of your favourite chick flicks.
Throwing a girls’ night in watch party is not only a more cost-effective and chilled-out way to spend time with your friends but is also a safer way to socialise and gives you a better opportunity to reconnect. Want to host one at your place? Here’s how to pull it off.
1. The Menu
Don’t worry, you don’t have to prepare a bougie three-course meal! But you will need to supply enough snacks for grazing throughout the evening. Popcorn is a must for movie watching, as is a selection of Shine Club Wine. Some vegetables, such as cucumber and carrot, cut into sticks and baby tomatoes pair well with a dip, such as cream cheese or hummus, and is quick and easy to prepare.
For something sweet, you can't go wrong with cupcakes, cookies, chocolate and macarons
2. Dress Code
Ask anyone who streams on the regular what their most comfortable movie-watching attire is and they would probably say a tracksuit or their pyjamas! So instead of hosting a fancy event that requires makeup, hair and an outfit, why not make it a more casual affair and have loungewear or sleepwear as your dress code? This will allow your friends to feel truly relaxed.
Hot tip: Put some soft blankets on your couch or seating for people to wrap themselves in for nostalgic sleepover vibes.
3. Beauty Activity
Feeding and entertaining your guests is great, but slipping in a pamper session also makes for some more bonding time with the girls. And a beauty or self-care treat is always a hit!
Get a sheet mask for each guest, which they can pop on while watching and leave for a few minutes to absorb into the skin.
Another option is to haul out your nail polish collection, as well as remover and cotton wool balls, so that your friends can give themselves – or each other – a mani or pedi while they watch.
4. Watch List
A watch party isn’t a watch party without a list of funny and feel-good movies for your viewing pleasure. Here are some options that are sure to entertain.
- Notting Hill
- Charlie’s Angels
- Bridget Jones’s Diary
- The Notebook
- 50 First Dates
- Coming to America
- Eat Pray Love
- Crazy Rich Asians
- Like A Boss
- Legally Blonde
- Pitch Perfect
- Mama Mia!
- Meet the Parents
Want to host a virtual girls’ night in instead? No problem!
- Netflix has a free, downloadable plug-in that connects to your browser called Netflix Party, which was designed specifically for remote watch parties. It allows multiple users to sync the playing back of Netflix movies and watch (and pause, fast-forward and rewind) from their desktops.
- Want to watch something on a different streaming service? No problem! All you have to do is get onto a video chat with your friends and all start watching the same movie at the same time (using headphones, ofc!). Sit back and watch the reactions roll in!
